The Consortium for Women and Research (CWR), with Gender and Global Issues (GGI), and the Hemispheric Institute for the Americas (HIA) announce the initiation of a Visiting Scholars Program in 2007-2008. In 2007-2008 these units will provide a small group of competitively selected domestic and international scholars with university affiliation, library privileges, shared office space, computer/internet access, and the opportunity to participate in the each of the unit's events. For more information on CWR, GGI, and HIA, please see the websites listed at the bottom of this page.

We are especially interested this year in scholars who work on gender and poverty, although this is not a requirement for consideration.

The Visiting Scholars Program is open to international faculty, both tenured and untenured, to post-doctoral and independent scholars, and to activists who are conducting research on women and/or gender-related issues. Visiting scholars who will be enrolling in GGI's Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Gender and Global Issues are also eligible to apply. Scholars provide their own financial support during their residency.

Residency will generally begin October 1, 2007 and end June 30, 2008 although the dates are flexible. The residency may be a full academic year or shorter period of time (a month or a quarter, for example.)

An application to the Visiting Scholar Program consists of three copies each of

1) A letter of intent of two to three pages which describes the proposed research project. (Include specific objectives, methodology, timetable, library or other resources required, and proposed end product.) The letter should also specify the length of residency desired.
2) A curriculum vitae (including current organizational or institutional affiliation, if any.)
3) A letter of recommendation from a colleague familiar with your work.

Without exception, applications must be postmarked by August 15, 2007 for consideration. Final selection results will be mailed by, September 15, 2007.

Send three (3) complete copies of your application to:
